Jade Empire

 As of late, I've been reading lots of Chinese mythology. It's truly fascinating, how they have such an intuitive mixture of Buddhist, Confucian and Taoist thought, seamlessly flowing side by side.

Deeply ingrained in these philosophies is the notion of the Great Wheel.....which ties back to my exploration of Wheel Sorcery. Reading these texts and seeing the concept casually explored through folk mythology is very interesting. The Great Wheel, Spirit Hierarchies (similar to medieval grimoires), Buddhas, Demons, the Jade Emperor, Nature Spirits (Midsummer Night's Dream vibes), Cultivators, Planetary Spirits.....etc. 

They have a very complex and nuanced cosmogony, appearing to have been built over at-least 2000 years. I've only just begun to explore this mythology....but have found it rich and enjoyable. Looking back....my first exposure to this "world" was actually through the video game, Jade Empire. In the game, you play a martial artist moving through a thick web of Chinese mythology and politics to restore balance to the Wheel and the Empire itself. The title of the game is actually a reference to the Jade Emperor....whom is a figure on the peak of the spirit hierarchy in Chinese cosmology.....governor of the cosmos. 

 Alas, I ramble....basically, with my Glyph project and Wheel Sorcery....I feel like I'm trying to do something similar to what the Chinese mythology has done....convey a vast ecosystem of consciousness, the various layers (dense to subtle), how they interact and make a practical system for occultists and mystics alike. I've been obsessed with arcane glyphs and magickal systems....yet it seems one of the best ways to convey this subtle ecosystem, is through fun stories. This may seem obvious....but for an uber occult nerd......jerking off on himself in occult minutiae......it is confounding....and something I'll have to meditate upon. 

 On a more practical note.....I've notably side-stepped the concept of Wheel Sorcery in Time Magick. I believe this is a blind-spot of being born in Western society....where we think of time in terms of linear progression (Past, Present, Future). Yet, if reality is made of vortexes and there all moving in cyclical patterns....then Time would have to be reigned similarly. I've never done much experimentation with Time Sorcery....but may have to flesh out my Gnosis. I'll likely have something to report on this in the future.
